Your Biggest Challenges, Deadly Mill Explosion and Worrying Trends: What You're Reading in October

Oct. 27, 2023
A look at this month's most popular stories.

I'm back! Did you miss me? Wait, don't answer that.

But seriously. I know it's been a bit since I've done a round up. Maybe you've been waiting with baited breath. Maybe you haven't even noticed. Either way, thanks for reading this.

It's been a busy season of life for me lately, both personally and professionally. We had our biggest-ever Safety Leadership Conference. I bought a house--and immediately had to start making repairs. I took some much-needed time off to bake at the beach, even after applying copious amounts of sunscreen.

But now, as I watch a gorgeous yellow leave fall in my front yard, I think about how winter will be here before I know it. I couldn't be more excited; I love cozy nights in, curling up with a good book and a mug of hot cocoa.

We've had a warm spell this week (lows in the 50s, highs of 71 degrees Farhrenheit), and the trees are peak fall. It's a little confusing to be walking around without a coat and seeing leaves on the ground, but I am not complaining. I like to think of it as Mother Nature hitting the pause button to get us to live in the moment.

I always feel like I'm writing these notes to the void, but if you want to share how the past few months have been for you, drop me a line in the comments below.

I checked our metrics to learn what's going on with you and what you're interested in reading. I'm pleased to see that so many of you were interested in the results of EHS Today's annual National Salary & Safety Survey. I'm also glad that you enjoyed our photo essay of our Safety Leadership Conference, though I was surprised to see myself in one of the pictures.

And while not a surprise, I also saw that you wanted to know about an OSHA and EPS investigation of a deadly mill explosion. I'm always disappointed and disheartened when I learn about people getting hurt or losing their lives on the job, but I want to take this opportunity to thank you for all you do. I know workplaces would be a lot less safe without your dedication and committment.

Until next time, take care and enjoy some fall fun if you can!
